Perovskia atriplicifolia, or Russian sage, is a hardy, drought-tolerant perennial with aromatic gray-green foliage and long-lasting lavender-blue flowers, ideal for sunny, well-drained gardens.
Botanical Description
Perovskia atriplicifolia is a woody-based perennial of the mint family, often grown as a subshrub. It typically reaches 2–4 feet in height (occasionally up to 5 feet) with a similar spread, featuring finely dissected, aromatic gray-green leaves on stiff, upright, square stems. The plant produces tiered panicles of two-lipped, tubular lavender-blue flowers that bloom from mid-summer into fall, attracting bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. Its long bloom period and silvery stems provide visual interest even after flowering.
