Magnolia virginiana glauca, commonly known as sweetbay magnolia, is a deciduous to semi-evergreen small tree or shrub native to the southeastern United States. It typically grows to a height of 10-20 feet and features elliptic leaves that can reach up to 12 cm in length, along with creamy white, lemon-fragrant flowers that bloom in late spring to summer. The tree is valued for its glossy green leaves with silvery-blue undersides and its elegant, often multi-stemmed habit. It thrives in moist, acidic, well-drained soils and is often used in gardens for its fragrant flowers and attractive foliage. In colder climates, it may be deciduous, while in warmer areas, it can remain semi-evergreen longer.
